A therapists perspective on healing
Self-awareness can feel life-ruining. The path to enlightenment is often a destructive one. An intuitive dance. The unlearning and relearning of everything you once knew to be true. It feels like grieving. Letting go of past versions of yourself can be painful. No one explains what it truly feels like to heal..but if you can relate to this feeling, I bet you have been there.
So, what does it mean to heal? It is my belief that healing is all about exploring the WHY behind your emotions. To ask yourself: What is this feeling trying to help me with? Is this feeling trying to protect me? Who/what does this feeling remind me of? What age is this part of me?
Why is it important to understand the WHY behind your emotions? Because it helps you recognize the pattern so it doesn’t continue to repeat itself! The wisdom of knowing YOURSELF is powerful.
These emotions can be challenging to face. You may come to learn things about yourself you thought you should have known. You may come to learn that there are versions of yourself that have been created as a result of your need to survive.
This part of you isn’t bad or wrong..these parts of you tried really hard to protect you for all these years..but maybe they no longer serve your best interest? Maybe you don't need to protect yourself so fiercely anymore.
It’s time to get to know these versions of yourself on a closer level so you can give them a new job. This is your healing journey. To see changes it will be your responsibility to make them. It will feel like grieving. But I believe we all have it in us. To always be learning more about ourselves. To step in to the new version of ourselves we have yet to discover.
Your journey is yours alone and I think it's pretty darn beautiful to witness that type of bravery.
